DECAL SHEET REVIEW

Furball Aero-Design 48-062 F-16C Canopy Framing
1:48 Scale

vol_2_image

The F-16 is one of the most prolific combat aircraft of the modern era, and there’s a ton of scale model kits of the Fighting Falcon.  None surpass the 1:48 scale Tamiya F-16C family of kits.  One detail that’s not in the kit and pretty challenging to represent on your own are the seals located on the edges of the canopy and aft (fixed) canopy.  On the F-16C, these are a black, gasket-like seal that keeps the cockpit pressurized and feature prominent, high-contrast silver screws/fasteners (not rivets) on the aft portions of canopy and the entire aft fixed canopy transparency.  The seals themselves can be a bit of a doozey to mask off, and the screw heads are very challenging to paint freehand (ask me how I know someday!).

In this release, Furball Aero-Design provides these seals for the Tamiya F-16C.  These can be used on any block F-16C.  The decals are split into left and right sides to make sure they properly lay over the compound curvature of the clear parts. Printing was done by Cartograf and appears technically impeccable in terms of printing quality, tightly restrained carrier film, and overall design.  The screw details are all there and printed in that neat iridescent silver that Cartograf does.  I like it!  After consulting some of my F-16 reference photography, it would be most accurate to probably run a little dull coat along the seal decals since the seals and the screw heads are pretty flat and non-reflective on the jet.

In summary, this is a great set to improve the accuracy and detail of your Tamiya F-16C.  Many thanks to Furball Aero-Design for the review sample.  You can find them on the web at http://www.furballaero-design.com/default.asp and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/FurballAeroDesign .
