DECAL SHEET REVIEW

Furball Aero-Design 48-011 Bravo MiG Killers Part 1:
F-4B Phantoms of the Vietnam Conflict -- 1:48 Scale

vol_2_image

In this set, Furball Aero-Design has re-released one of their most popular decals sets, the very colorful and impressive Bravo MiG Killers Part 1: F-4B Phantoms of the Vietnam Conflict.  These decals are designed to fit the 1:48 scale Academy kit, but some can be adapted (certain schemes more easily than others) to the Hasegawa F-4B.

The sheet has markings for 14 F-4Bs:

Decal printing and design, just like the first time around with this sheet, are superlative. Cartograf’s printing (including the incredibly restrained and thin carrier film) is impeccable.  The decal sheet includes full stencils and anti-skid walkways for two jets.  Beyond the gorgeous printing, it’s the attention to little details that impresses me just as much, including the fidelity of the airframe stencils.  The choice in schemes are also great, and include some of my favorite VF-161 black-tailed Phantoms, and of course, there are no less than four different versions of VF-51’s CAG bird to choose from with the highly stylized eagle, affectionately and better known as the “Supersonic Can Opener,” adorning much of the fuselage.  Awesome!

If you didn’t get this sheet the last time it was produced (and sold out), here’s your chance.  Overall, Furball Aero-Design does another consistently great job with this offering and it will allow scale modelers to represent some of most distinctive of the high-visibility Vietnam-era MiG-killing Phantom IIs.  The high standard of research also shines through on the accuracy of these decals.

Many thanks to Furball Aero-Design for the review sample. You can find them on the web at http://www.furballaero-design.com/default.asp and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/FurballAeroDesign
