AFTERMARKET REVIEW

Eduard Brassin F-14D Ejection Seats
(for the Tamiya kit) -- 1:48 Scale

vol_2_image

Tamiya’s 1:48 scale F-14D made some major waves when it was released in 2018.  We reviewed it HERE and as you can tell, we really liked it!  It was also voted as the 2018 Detail & Scale Reader’s Choice Kit of the Year.

The kit cockpit is good for injection molding, but many scale modelers might wish to add even more detail especially when it comes to the ejection seats.  That’s where this Eduard Brassin detail set comes in.  It is a substitution for the Tamiya kit seats and the parts are designed to be drop-in replacements.  It comes in a small, sturdy box with Eduard’s new Brassin packaging look.  Inside, you’ll find parts for two seats with 10 cast resin parts and 18 photoetched parts on a pre-painted fret.

The ejection seats just might be the best cast resin Martin-Baker Mk. 14 NACES seats I’ve seen.  They are very accurate, down to the wiring for the ejection seat computer module, the seat’s thermal batteries, and other subtle details.  The seat cushion is a separate part, as are the G-suit/breathing oxygen hook-ups.  The pre-painted shoulder harnesses, lap belts, leg restraints, and ejection handles look great.  The differentially sized canopy breakers for the pilot and RIO’s seats are provided as separate cast resin parts.  Especially important here, at least to me, are the PE harnesses and belts.  There’s no other way to do belt details better, and they are light-years superior to the kit supplied belts which are mere decals.

These seats are great for those modelers just wanting to improve their F-14D ejection seats.  They can also be found in Eduard’s Brassin cockpit set, which you can read about HERE which is a complete new cockpit for the Tamiya Super Tomcat.

We extend our sincere thanks to Eduard for the review sample. You can visit them on the web at http://www.eduard.com and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/EduardCompany/
