AFTERMARKET REVIEW

Eduard Brassin Bf 109E Engine (for the Eduard Kit)
1:32 Scale

vol_2_image

Eduard’s 1:32 scale Bf 109E kit has seen a number of releases spanning 11 different boxings, including the most recent Legion Condor limited edition kit set (see our review HERE).  The kit includes an injection molded Daimler-Benz DB 601A engine.  The quality of that engine is good for injection molding, but for those scale modelers seeking a different level of detail, Eduard produces a cast resin and brass version of the DB 601A in the Brassin line.

This detail set contains 39 cast resin parts along with 37 photoetched metal parts on a single fret.  Eduard has provided yet another absolute gem of an engine set.  The casting is exquisite and technically flawless.  In other words, the detail is rich and the execution is elegant.  The combination of the separate parts (both resin and PE) produce an engine far more involved than any single resin casting could ever accomplish.  If you’re like me and enjoy resin detail sets, this is what aftermarket detail sets are all about.

The set features the inline engine, engine mounts, firewall, cowling, supercharger, fuel injector pumps, magnetos, gear boxes, oil filters, scavenger oil pumps, pipes, hoses, wires – everything.  It also includes the upper engine cowling, and it is richly detailed on its external and internal surfaces.  The kit’s exhaust stacks, which I would characterize as rather flat-faced, are replaced by deeply recessed structures here.  These exhaust stacks are perfect.

I really scrutinized my own references on this engine, and I would say the DB-601A is beautifully represented here.

We extend our sincere thanks to Eduard for the review sample. You can visit them on the web at http://www.eduard.com and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/EduardCompany/
