AFTERMARKET REVIEW

Eduard Liberator GR Mk. VI Upgrade Set for the
Eduard Kit -- 1:72 Scale

vol_2_image

In 2018, Eduard reboxed the generally excellent Hasegawa 1:72 scale B-24 Liberator kit and added new parts and decals to make it a British Liberator in the “Riders in the Sky” limited edition series.  Last summer, we took at look at the Mk. III and Mk. V versions in Riders in the Sky 1944 (see our review HERE) and later, Eduard released “Riders in the Sky 1945” with parts and markings options for the for the Liberator GR Mk. VI and VIII.  This set is for the GR Mk. VI in the latter boxing.

Here, you get two frets of photoetched parts.  The smaller fret is pre-painted and includes 41 parts.  These are mainly focused on cockpit sidewall features including dial faces, various equipment boxes, map cases, cockpit floor and rudder pedal details, and if I’m not mistaken, some oxygen regulator details, too.

The larger fret is unpainted with 68 parts.  There, you’ll find more cockpit sidewall details along with the overhead cockpit controls and a good group of excellent detail parts for the waist gunner positions.  These including various internal panels, the ammo boxes and racks, ammo chutes, and replacement photoetched metal barrels for the .50 caliber machine guns (and replacement barrels for all other machine gun positions, too).  Other parts enhance the details of the nose and tail gun turrets and an open crew access hatch.

The detail in the kit is impressive, but the addition of these photoetched metal parts really does take it up a few extra levels in terms of detail that a lot of scale modelers will really enjoy.

We extend our sincere thanks to Eduard for the review sample. You can visit them on the web at http://www.eduard.com and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/EduardCompany/
