Eduard Detail Sets for the Tamiya He 219 Kit
1:48 Scale

vol_2_image

The Heinkel He 219 Uhu was a fearsome heavy night fighter developed by Germany during the Second World War.  Tamiya’s 1:48 scale He 219 was a late-1990s effort that was so good that it still stands as one of Tamiya’s very best kits of all time.  As I say frequently, more detail can be added if the scale modeler is inclined to do so, and Eduard provides such opportunity for the Tamiya Uhu with three recently released photoetched metal detail sets.

Eduard # FE 947 He 219 ZOOM:  The kit cockpit is frankly pretty good, but certainly, these PE parts can really enhance the He 219’s interior.  This set features one pre-painted color fret containing 88 parts.  The parts include total replacements for the pilot’s instrument panel and side consoles, throttles (big improvement there), rudder pedals, and lots of sidewall details.  The radio sets and radar gear in the back seat also get PE replacements.  There’s a high level of detail here, from the precision-painted instrument dial faces to the arrays of switches, knobs, instrument panel stencils, and other details.  Instrument dial faces have been treated with Eduard’s raised-glass effect.  There are also a few data placards included for the main landing gear.

Eduard # FE 948 He 219 Seatbelts STEEL:  One of the few oversights or limitations of the Tamiya kit involves the lack of shoulder harnesses and lap belts.  Here, this set takes care of that problem.  There are 12 pre-painted parts here including all the appropriate belts, featuring various pre-painted details including stitching and shading effects.  The details are sharp and as usual for pre-painted Eduard parts, they look really great.

Eduard # 49947 He 219 Detail Set:  This set is the full deal.  It contains the cockpit ZOOM set as described above along with two additional unpainted frets bearing 94 parts.  These additional parts provide more cockpit details., new nose and main gear well surfaces, the main gear brake lines, the nose gear oleo, boarding ladder details, air intake filters, flame dampener grills, the gunsight, gunsight glass, the pilot’s up-front armor plate, and engine details to include cowl flap interiors.  There are multiple airframe antennas including photoetched 8x-dipole Matratze antennas.  These were the early antennas paired with the 490 MHz UHF-band FuG 212 Lichtenstein C-1 radar.  It’s a nice alternate set of antennas since these are not included in the Tamiya kit.

Any one of these photoetched metal detail sets will add some great features and depth of detail to your 1:48 scale Tamiya He 219.  In combination, they will really elevate your build in very important and noticeable ways.  When I build my next He 219 kit, all of these sets will be incorporated into the project.

We extend our sincere thanks to Eduard for the review sample. You can visit them on the web at http://www.eduard.com and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/EduardCompany/
