Eduard Brassin Sets for the Trumpeter/Eduard
MiG-23ML/MF -- 1:48 Scale

vol_2_image

In 2012, Trumpeter launched a family of MiG-23 Flogger kits in 1:48 scale, and in 2018, Eduard reboxed one of them in their popular limited edition issue, Bedna: MiG-23 MF/ML in Czechoslovak Service.  As is often the case, Eduard followed up with a number of additional aftermarket sets for the Eduard/Trumpeter kit.  Here, we take a look at three of these Brassin sets and a photoetched metal detail set for the swing-wing MiG.

Eduard Brassin #648428 - MiG-23 ML Main Wheel Bay:  The kit itself has a decent set of main gear wells, but the detail is sparse compared to the real thing.  This Brassin set is designed to virtually drop straight into the kit to provide some really exceptional details above and beyond what injection molding can provide.  The set contains 13 cast resin parts that really do capture the finer details and nuances of the MiG-23 main gear wells (e.g., pipes, wiring and cables, junction boxes).  The gear doors, gear door actuators, and a few other items are also included as resin parts.  Eleven other parts (e.g., gear door locking latches, more wiring) are provided on a small photoetched metal fret.

Eduard Brassin #648428 - MiG-23 MF/ML Ejection Seat:  Here, Eduard provides a replacement ejection seat that is better than the kit ejection seat by a longshot.  Here, you get two cast resin parts for the ejection seat and a separate headrest and a pre-painted photoetched metal fret with 11 parts featuring the shoulder harnesses, lap belts, and ejection handles.  The quality of casting and detail is frankly superb from the ejection seat backpad to every other detail on the seat.  The pre-painted details on the photoetched metal parts is likewise superb, down to the stitching effects on the belts themselves.

Eduard Brassin #648434 - MiG-23 MF Engine Air Intakes:  Arguably, the shape of the kit intakes is a bit off, especially in its forward cross-section.  This set is a drop-in correction and replaces the kit intakes.  There are two cast resin parts (single piece intakes) complemented by eight photoetched metal parts on one fret.  It is as simple as it is effective, and the resin casting here is just flawless.

Eduard Brassin #648434 - MiG-23 ML Upgrade Set:  This single fret of unpainted photoetched metal parts features 141 parts (some of which are really quite small!) to further outfit your 1:48 Eduard/Trumpeter MiG-23 ML (and a lot of these parts can be used on the MF as well).  Here, you get a diverse range of enhancements, from cockpit ejection seat rails, the cockpit sill, canopy details, multiple additional detail parts for the nose gear, a wealth of detail parts for the nose gear well, lots of airframe details such as vents and antennas, the very important intake boundary layer splitter plate, speed brake interiors, afterburner flame holder, and more.

Individually, any one of these sets will bring some very nice additional detail to your 1:48 Eduard/Trumpeter MiG-23 MF/ML.  Used together, they will significantly enhance the level of detail and accuracy in this kit.

Sincere thanks are owed to Eduard for the review sample.  You can visit them on the web at http://www.eduard.com and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/EduardCompany
