Eduard Brassin Wheel Sets for the Tamiya Spitfire
Mk. IX -- 1:32 Scale

vol_2_image

The 1:32 scale Tamiya Spitfire Mk. IX is arguably one of the great injection-molded scale model kits of our era.  Yet, there are a few things that can be improved upon with this kit.  One such feature is the fact that the tires are –gasp! – made from rubber.  Rubber tires might look nice in the box, but paint tends to crack off of them and over time the rubber itself desiccates and cracks.  Further, the kit has only one style of tire and the Spitfire Mk. IX was fitted with two primary tire styles.

These four Brassin sets cover every permutation for Spitfire Mk. IX tire styles.  The four- and five-spoked wheel hubs are offered in combination with either the smooth tire version (as what’s in the kit) and the treaded tire design.  In all cases, the casting detail is both very intricate and technically flawless.

Each of the four sets comes with separate inner and outer tire hubs featuring great details, down to the bolts and the brakes.  Each tire is a one-piece casting and the casting plug is at the bottom where a slight bulge is found, depicting the resting weight of the aircraft on the tire.  It’s relatively subtle and not at all overdone.  The Dunlop imprimatur is clear and quite legible in all these tire sets as well as other raised tire data details.  A complete tailwheel is included in each of the four sets as well.

The final detail to note is the fact the Eduard includes in each of these sets a nice pre-cut self-adhesive masking set.  This can assist greatly with the precision painting of the hubs and tires saving time and energy that can be directed elsewhere.

Whichever your 1:32 scale Spitfire build requires – a four-spoked hub with either plain or treaded tires or a five-spoked hub with either plain or treaded tires – Eduard has you covered.  These sets are definitely better and more detailed than the kit parts.  They will add a really nice suite of details to your Spitfire’s landing gear and tailwheel assembly.
