AFTERMARKET REVIEW

CMK Quick & Easy Q48-231
Martin-Baker Mk. 10A Ejection Seats 1:48th Scale

The well-known semi-satirical phrase, “meet your maker in a Martin-Baker,” could well be changed to “have your life saved by a Martin-Baker,” as this British manufacturer’s great ejection seats have indeed spared many an aviator from otherwise certain death (and I know a few people quite grateful for MB seats!).

In this resin aftermarket and photoetch metal set, CMK’s Quick & Easy line provides a pair of Martin-Baker Mk.10As, which is a 1970s design of a zero-zero high-performance ejection seat.  Mk.10s have been fitted to a very wide variety of mostly European aircraft, from Alpha Jets to Mirages, Rafaels, Gripens, Sea Harriers, and more.  In this set, these Mk.10As are designed and configured as Panavia Tornado bang seats and are intended to fit the 1:48 scale Revell kit.

These Mk.10A ejection seats are impeccably cast in a medium-gray resin without any observable defects.  The level of detail is not just great, but accurate.  It comes with one photoetch metal fret that has pre-painted shoulder harnesses, lap belts, and ejection handles.  My own personal preference as a scale modeler is having separate harnesses and belts, since I would argue the final product is far more realistic than most manufacturers’ molded-on belts.  Size, shape, and color, and other details compare favorably with my Mk.10 seat references.

Overall, CMK’s Quick & Easy 1:48 scale Mk.10A ejection seats are an excellent choice to add some very high quality detail parts to your Revell Tornado.  Highly recommended!
Many thanks to CMK and Special Hobby for the sample.  You can find them online at: https://www.specialhobby.eu/index.php?cur=2&lang=1& and on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/specialhobby/?fref=ts
