CMK AJ-37/SF-37/SH-37 Viggen Canard Correction Set 1:48 Scale

vol_2_image

The Saab Viggen was a single-seat, single-engine multirole attack jet produced and flown by Sweden.  It was perhaps one of the most distinctive European combat aircraft of the Cold War era, as it featured a radical delta wing and forward mounted canards.  In 2014, a collaboration between Tarangus and Special Hobby produced the first new tool 1:48 scale Viggen in decades (see our review of one of the Special Hobby releases HERE.  It’s a very strong kit, but one area where one might be just a bit disappointed is the lack of separate control surfaces.

This release by CMK provides all-new cast resin canards for your Viggen to replace those in the kit.  The set is straightforward (no modification of the parts are necessary) and it contains just four parts.  The trailing edge control surfaces are separate pieces and can positioned as the scale modeler desires, and when the landing gear was extended on the Viggen, the trailing edge flaps of the canards deflected downwards by 30º.

The quality of this set is excellent, and the casting is flawless (no defects, warping, or other problems).  Panel lines are nicely done and delicately recessed.  The flap hinges are likewise quite detailed – just what you want in a resin detail set.  And for that added realism, this set is important.  When the landing gear were cycled down, these trailing edge flaps dropped along with them.  And, just about whenever the Viggen sat on the ground with the power off, the trailing edge canard flaps also dropped to about a 30-degree down angle.

Sincere thanks are owed to CMK/Special Hobby for the review sample.  You visit them on the web at http://www.specialhobby.info and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/specialhobby
