AFTERMARKET REVIEW

CMK Asian Elephant -- 1:48 Scale

The RAF’s involvement in South Asia and India during WWII was a key element that pushed back on the western margins of the Japanese empire.  The RAF was instrumental in driving Japanese forces out of Burma and back towards the home islands.  In some settings, tractors were unavailable to tow aircraft at RAF bases and other forward operating locations, so a local resident was drafted into service: the Asian elephant.

In this release, CMK provides a single-piece casting of a 1:48 scale Asian elephant that can serve as an important diorama accessory for those interested in depicting their RAF aircraft on the ground.  The elephant itself looks very nicely cast, has great surface detail, and its anatomy is correct for an Asian elephant (versus an African elephant).  There’s one thing to look for: going down the midline of the elephant’s back, there’s a remnant of a casting block that is like a thin resin fin that needs to be sanded down and removed – nothing too daunting at all.

Indeed, this pachyderm can add an unusual and interesting touch to a diorama of any kind in 1:48 scale.  Of note, CMK also does this elephant in 1:72 scale (#72 328) and another 1:48 and 1:72 scale pair of sets with the intrepid elephant and two figures (#48 345 and 72 327, respectively).
